The Zambia Police Service has formally arrested and charged Lima Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH) over an alleged assault that occurred during campaign roadshows in Lusaka.

In a press statement issued today Friday, October 16, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha says the 44 year old lawmaker had been charged under Section 248 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Police say the matter was reported on August 7, 2026, at around 21:30 hours by 26 year old Anthony Mwamba, who alleges that he had been assaulted by Mr Kaunda earlier that evening.

According to the report, the alleged incident occurred around 19:30 hours along Zingalume Road during campaign roadshows.

The complainant reportedly sustained a deep cut to the forehead and a swollen upper lip, with stones and fists allegedly used in the assault.

Police say Mr Kaunda remains in custody awaiting court proceedings.
