The stage is set, the flags are flying, and Lusaka is bracing for a day of pomp, colour, and political symbolism as President-elect Hakainde Hichilema and Vice-President-elect W.K. Mutale-Nalumango take their oaths of office today.

Mr Hichilema, who is the incumbent President, will be sworn in alongside Ms Mutale-Nalumango, his running mate in the polls, which he won by more than 1.1 million votes against his closest competitor, Brian Mundubile.

The National Heroes Stadium will become the centre of national attention when the two leaders are sworn in before thousands of citizens, dignitaries, and invited guests.

The Government has, befittingly, declared today a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in the historic occasion.

Foreign Heads of State and Government are expected to grace the occasion, alongside newly elected Members of Parliament, mayors, council chairpersons, councillors, and government officials at the stadium.

Traditional dance groups, church choirs, and musicians will provide entertainment to celebrate President Hichilema’s return to office.

The atmosphere around Heroes Stadium is expected to be charged with excitement as supporters and political enthusiasts converge on the capital to witness the beginning of another five-year chapter under the New Dawn administration.

For President Hichilema, today’s ceremony carries the weight of both celebration and expectation.

Having secured a resounding victory in the August 13 general elections, he returns to the podium with a renewed mandate to pursue his development agenda.

The Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force, Zambia National Service, and Zambia Police Service said on Sunday that they were satisfied with the preparations to host the occasion at the stadium.

Smart Zambia Institute National Coordinator Percy Chinyama also assured the public that reliable digital connectivity was in place for the ceremony to be broadcast flawlessly.

Mr Chinyama, who toured the site yesterday alongside Government Chief Technology Officer Kalusa Musukwa, said all connectivity arrangements were complete, adding that the digital infrastructure supporting this historic and momentous national occasion is ready and resilient.

According to the Cabinet Office programme, President Hichilema and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema are expected to arrive at 10:50 hours under ceremonial escort.

Chief Justice Mumba Malila will administer the oaths of office to both the President and Vice-President.

The Head of State will then be accorded a 21-gun salute and a military fly past before inspecting the guard of honour and delivering his inaugural address.

Beyond the ceremony, the occasion offers a moment of reflection on the past five years and the promises awaiting delivery in the second term.

From the economy and jobs to education, agriculture, infrastructure, and social protection, the expectations of Zambians remain high.

As the national colours dominate Lusaka and ceremonial drums roll, Zambia pauses to witness the peaceful transition from an electoral mandate to constitutional authority.

When the oaths are administered and the cheers subside, the real work begins!

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages from international and local leaders continued pouring in for the Head of State yesterday.
