Prudential has marked ten years of operations in Zambia, celebrating a decade of significant milestones in life assurance and pensions. Having officially launched in 2016, Prudential has provided coverage to over 600,000 individuals, paid more than K2.7 billion (US$142 million) in claims, and managed approximately K7 billion (US$370 million) in pension assets as of the first half of 2026.

These figures highlight Prudential’s contribution to helping Zambians protect their families, prepare for retirement and build greater financial resilience over the past decade.

Commemorated under the theme “A Decade of Trust. Securing Futures. Shaping Tomorrow,” the anniversary highlights Prudential’s investment in financial protection, long-term savings, employment, and community initiatives across Zambia.

Over the years, Prudential has expanded its presence through Prudential Life Assurance Zambia (PLAZ) and Prudential Pensions Management Zambia (PPMZ), combining life and health insurance with pensions administration, investment management and wealth solutions. Beyond providing financial products, the company has also contributed to supporting livelihoods, promoting financial education, improving road safety and strengthening health services.

In the insurance market, PLAZ has established itself as a leading player, ranking first with a 26 per cent market share and maintaining a presence in nine of Zambia’s ten provinces. Through its life and health insurance, savings, travel insurance and funeral plans, the company provides solutions that help customers prepare for different stages of life. Furthermore, the claims paid demonstrate the practical value of these services by providing financial support to customers and their families when insured events occur.

Prudential’s industry leadership has been recognized through numerous awards, such as the Exceptional Campaign Awards during Pensions Awareness Week (2023, 2025), the 2026 Exceptional Consumer Education Award from the Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA), and the CSR Excellence in Financial Inclusion and Economic Empowerment Award from CSR Network Zambia.

In terms of employment, PLAZ employs over 193 staff and nearly 2,000 agents, while PPMZ has expanded from just three employees in 2016 to 62 in 2026, fostering skills development and career growth in Zambia’s financial sector.

At the 10th anniversary celebration, Prudential Africa CEO Emmanuel Aryee Mokobi reaffirmed the company’s mission to help families manage uncertainty and build financial security for the future.
Mokobi said Prudential’s operations in Zambia have demonstrated the company’s purpose of helping families manage uncertainty while building financial security for the future.

“Zambia shows what our purpose means in practice: helping families manage uncertainty today while supporting the savings that will sustain them tomorrow. Across Africa, resilient communities need both financial protection and opportunities to plan for the long term. This anniversary reflects our long-term commitment to Zambia and to building a future in which more people can access the protection and financial confidence they need,” said Mokobi.

Speaking at the same event, Prudential Life Assurance Zambia Chief Executive Officer Kachiza Kwenda said the true value of insurance was reflected in the support customers received when they needed it most.

“Trust is earned by honoring our promises. The K2.7 billion (US$142 million) we have paid in claims as of HY 2026 is a tangible measure of the protection we provide, not simply a business milestone. We thank our customers for choosing us. Our responsibility now is to keep earning that trust through consistent service and solutions that respond to their changing needs,” said Kwenda.
PMMZ Board Chairperson, Joseph Mwansa Chikolwa, noted that over the past decade, Prudential has demonstrated unwavering commitment, resilience, and purpose, earning something far more valuable than financial results: the trust of our customers and communities.

He said Prudential’s impact goes beyond financial services. “Through the Prudence Foundation, we have donated K394,700 in critical hygiene and disinfectant supplies to the Ministry of Health, reinforcing our support during public health challenges. Our response to the Cholera Centre, providing handwashing stations, chlorine, antiseptic soap, and IVs, underscores our commitment to standing with communities in times of adversity.”

“Our Health Facility Solar Electrification (HFSE) Project, launched in partnership with the WHO, has delivered sustainable solar energy to eight health facilities across Zambia, with a K2 million investment. This initiative ensures reliable power for maternity and emergency wards, strengthens climate resilience, and supports the continuous operation of essential medical equipment. The project’s high-level recognition by government ministers highlights our ongoing commitment to building a healthier, more resilient Zambia.”

“As a pensions business, we understand that securing futures is not about quick wins, but about helping individuals and families prepare for the years ahead, protecting their hard-earned savings and ensuring promises made today are honoured tomorrow. This responsibility demands integrity, sound governance, and prudent decision-making.” He said.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) Deputy Registrar for Pensions, Goodson Sakala, emphasised the importance of trust, responsible stewardship and financial security as Prudential Zambia enters its next decade.

“As Prudential Zambia marks ten years, tonight’s theme reminds us of what we can achieve together: building trust, securing futures and shaping a stronger financial sector for Zambia,” said Kapaso.

In addition to its contribution to financial protection, Prudential has played a role in creating employment opportunities and supporting local livelihoods.

PLAZ employs more than 193 staff and works with nearly 2,000 agents, while PPMZ has grown significantly from just three employees in 2016 to 62 in 2026. Through these teams, the businesses connect customers with financial solutions while creating opportunities for skills development and career growth within Zambia’s financial services sector.
