Six tipper trucks have been impounded for allegedly transporting copper ore suspected to have been stolen from Baluba Mine in Luanshya, Copperbelt Province.
The trucks are reportedly owned by Jinfeng Copper Company Limited.
Central Province Commissioner of Police LEMEKANI CHIRWA says the trucks were intercepted in Ngabwe District following a tip-off from members of the public who raised concerns about their movement through the area.
Mr. CHIRWA says preliminary investigations indicate that the copper ore may have been unlawfully obtained from Baluba Mine, prompting police to intercept the trucks and apprehend those involved.

He says one suspect has been taken into custody and will be transferred to Ndola as investigations into the matter continue.
Meanwhile, Central Province Permanent Secretary, MILNER MWANAKAMPWE says the trucks were intercepted on November 4, 2026 before being escorted to Kabwe Central Police Station, where they remain impounded.
Dr. MWANAKAMPWE says each truck is carrying slightly more than 30 tonnes of copper ore and was destined for Kabwe.
He further disclosed that the Director of Chendge Mining Company, 43-year-old Chinese national GUO-MEL YOU, who allegedly owns the copper ore, has also been detained, alongside another individual in Luanshya suspected of selling the minerals.
Dr. MWANAKAMPWE has since warned individuals and companies involved in illegal mining and the transportation of minerals to desist from such activities, as authorities intensify efforts to curb mineral-related offences.
