Zambian authorities quiz self-acclaimed winner of presidential poll, Mundubile, running mate, Zulu

National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, and his running mate Makebi Zulu are being interrogated by police after being handed over by the United Nations, which had been providing them protection in Lusaka.

Police spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, confirmed the news, saying the two opposition figures were being interviewed by a team of law enforcement officers in the presence of their lawyers.

Chilabi said police would issue an official statement once the interviews had been concluded.

“Yes, they are currently being interviewed by a team of law enforcement officers, and their lawyers are present with them. Once all the interviews have been completed, a further update will be issued,” he said.

The questioning follows summons issued to Mundubile and Zulu in connection with investigations into alleged activities that police say have the potential to threaten national security.

The two had been under UN protection in Lusaka before being handed over to police.
