All is set for the Kulonga Traditional Ceremony of the Tumbuka people in Lundazi district, Eastern province.
The ceremony which is slated for September 12, 2026 will be celebrated under the theme: Our Culture brings about Peace and Unity to people.
Interpreting the theme, Kulonga Traditional Ceremony Organising Chairperson, Boyd Zimba says there can never be development without peace.
Mr Zimba says this is why the ceremony will serve as a platform to remind citizens of the importance of preserving peace and unity.
“As Tumbukas, we believe without unity and peace, there can never be development so people need to cherish the peace and unity that this country has enjoyed from time immemorial,” Mr Zimba stated.
Mr Zimba stated that Kulonga traditional which attracts Tumbuka speaking people of Muyombe and Malawi is originally celebrated during the last week of July, but was moved to second week of September due to the recently held general elections.
He added that the Malawi based Paramount Chief of the Tumbuka speaking people, Chikulamayembe will be in attendance, while an invitation has been extended to the office of the President to grace the occasion.
