AUDITOR GENERAL MWAMBWA WILL VACATE OFFICE – GOV’T

ATTORNEY General Mulilo Kabesha says government has accepted the Constitutional Court’s decision to declare Dr Ron Mwambwa’s appointment as Auditor General unconstitutional on grounds of age, adding that he will vacate the office.
Meanwhile, State House Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka says President Hakainde Hichilema respects decisions of the courts. On Friday, the Constitutional Court declared Dr Mwambwa’s appointment as Auditor General unconstitutional on grounds of age and ordered him to immediately vacate the office.
The court ruled that Dr Mwambwa was ineligible for appointment because he was above the constitutional retirement age of 60 when he was appointed.
The matter was taken to court by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), which challenged Dr Mwambwa’s continued occupation of the office.
