By Christopher Miti Chadiza District has recorded 828 teenage pregnancies from January to July 2026. This shows a reduction of 672 cases from 1500 cases that were recorded in the same period last year. Chadiza District Health office community engagement focal point person JULIUS SAMBOKO says the government has since partnered with stakeholders such as Plan International and the community to enhance awareness. Mr SAMBOKO was speaking during the community based Paralegals training on the Childrens Code Act Number 12 of 2022 by Plan International and the National Prosecutions Authority in Chadiza District. And Plan International Eastern Area Programme Manager Dr DENNIS LEMBANI said his organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Prosecutions Authority to among other raise awareness on the justice system regarding such vices. Dr LEMBANI said the two institutions identified gaps regarding such matters because the community does not understand legal implications that arise as a result of child marriages and teen pregnancies. Meanwhile National Prosecutions Authority Director for Gender based crimes and child protection department MARGARET KAPAMBWE – CHITUNDU has attributed high teenage pregnancies to lack of parental responsibility.
