Chinese Firm Eyes Zambia Textile Investment

By Honester Mshoka China’s SHANDONG LIUTUAN Home Textile Company has expressed interest in investing in Zambia’s textile industry. The company, one of China’s largest textile manufacturers, is advancing discussions on an integrated textile project in Zambia. The initiative is expected to complement existing investments such as the Zambia‑China Mulungushi Textile, while creating opportunities for increased production, supplier participation and access to export markets. Company Chairman LIANG ZHONG HAN said the project and financing scale will be determined through a joint assessment and planning process, with the first phase envisaged around the first quarter of 2027. Mr HAN explained that Zambia was chosen due to its market potential and sound economic policies. Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Chief Executive Officer CORNWELL MULEYA said the Corporation is pleased to attract meaningful investment to support Zambia’s industrialisation. He noted that the investment forms part of the Grow Zambia Agenda and will not only revive cotton production but also develop the entire textile value chain up to garment manufacturing. Mr MULEYA added that the company brings more than 100 years of experience in the textile business in China.
