ZAMBIA coach Nora Häuptle says the Copper Queens will not take Egypt lightly when the two sides meet in their opening Group C match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

Despite Zambia entering the match as favourites, Häuptle said her side is fully aware of the threat posed by the North Africans and will focus on delivering a strong performance.

Addressing a pre-match news conference, Häuptle said the squad is eager to get the campaign underway.

“Can’t wait to start the tournament. We have 25 players in the squad who are fit and ready,” she said.

The Swiss coach said Zambia’s approach will be centred on executing its game plan, adding that results follow good performances.

“We’re going to face Egypt. It is about performance. We are not just focused on talking about the result. We always believe that when we do our performance well, the result will automatically follow,” she said.

Häuptle revealed that the technical bench had analyzed Egypt and made tactical adjustments.

“We have observed Egypt and found the spaces and gaps and we keep focusing on us. We have developed new tactical plans which will be implemented well. We have been a bit flexible,” Häuptle said.

Zambia will be seeking a winning start to its WAFCON campaign as it bids to progress from Group C and challenge for the continental title.

Zambia’s other Group C opponents are Nigeria and Malawi.
