Government says it offered to accord former Cabinet Minister and former Lunte Member of Parliament, Mutotwe Kafwaya, funeral and burial honours applicable to a former Cabinet Minister.
The offer, however, has been declined by the family, which has opted for a private funeral.
Mr Kafwaya died after being fatally wounded during a joint state security operation in Kabulonga, Lusaka, on August 14.
Government later confirmed that the unidentified man killed during the operation was Kafwaya, after his family positively identified his body.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of several people, with firearms and ammunition reportedly recovered.
In a statement issued today by,Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa says Kafwaya previously served as Minister of Works and Supply from 2018 to 2019 and Minister of Transport and Communications from 2019 to 2021.
Government has since appealed to the public to respect the family’s decision to hold a private funeral as questions surrounding Kafwaya’s death continue to attract national attention.
