Govt Disburses K794M in School Grants

By Patricia Banda Government has disbursed 794 million Kwacha School grants to public schools across the country, ahead of the reopening of schools tomorrow, September 7th, 2026. The grants are meant to support the administrative running of schools . Ministry of Education Director and Head of Communication, KUNDA MANDO, says the grants are for July, August and September 2026 . Ms. MANDO has told ZNBC News in an interview that the next disbursement of school grants will cover October, November and December 2026. She said the Ministry of Education has also put in place a number of measures to ensure a smooth and successful start to the third term. The measures include ensuring that teachers are provided with teaching and learning materials for use during the term. She further explains that, a week before schools reopened, all schools held preparatory meetings, including staff meetings where class allocations, the rolling out of the third-term programme of activities and staff assignments were finalized. Ms. MANDO has disclosed that Standards Officers at national, provincial and district levels will conduct spot checks during the first two weeks of the term to verify the attendance of teachers and learners and assess the readiness of schools. She said the Ministry remains committed to ensuring that every learner has access to a teacher, learning materials and a conducive learning environment from day one of the third term.
