NEARLY three years in charge of the Chipolopolo boys, Avram Grant has finally left his position as the Zambia National football team head coach, saying he is proud of the progress made during his time in charge.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced, that it had reached a mutual agreement to part ways with the 70-year-old Israeli coach.
This decision grants Avram an exit from the Chipolopolo technical bench ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) tournament in Morocco.
In a farewell message on his official Instagram page, Grant said he was leaving the team in a better position than when he first took over.
“I am proud to leave the team in a much better position than when I inherited it,” he stated.
He disclosed that qualifying the team for two back-to-back AfCON tournaments was one of his biggest achievements and expressed hope that Zambia would one day reach its first-ever FIFA World Cup.
He further made special mention of former FAZ president Andrew Kamanga for trusting him with the responsibility to manage the national team.
FAZ general secretary Machacha Shepande confirmed the development in a statement issued from Football House.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has agreed to mutually separate with Zambia Senior Men’s National Team coach Avram Grant. The two parties agreed to mutually separate, with FAZ wishing Mr. Grant the best of luck in his future endeavours,” Shepande said.
Grant, took over the Chipolopolo in December 2022.
According to FAZ, under his leadership, Zambia qualified for two consecutive AfCON tournaments after missing out on several previous editions.
Meanwhile, FAZ is expected to announce the next head coach in the coming weeks as preparations continue for the 2025 AfCON in Morocco, where Zambia will face Morocco, Mali and Comoros in Group A.
