Zambia’s Department of Immigration has apprehended 153 people of various nationalities in separate enforcement operations conducted in Ndola and Kitwe on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The operations were conducted to verify immigration status and screen individuals, according to a statement issued by Chief Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka.

In Ndola, a joint operation with other security agencies was conducted in Minsundu, Itawa, Ndeke, Kansenshi, Northrise and Mitengo, resulting in the apprehension of 86 people.

Those apprehended comprised 35 Somalis, 25 Congolese, 11 Kenyans, six Tanzanians, three people claiming Zambian citizenship, two British nationals and one national each from China, Egypt, Sweden and Ethiopia.

Preliminary screening established that 29 of those apprehended held valid immigration permits, while the immigration status of the remaining individuals was subject to further verification.

“Two Somali nationals were handed over to the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) after allegedly being found in possession of miraa,” Nshinka said.

In Kitwe, immigration officers conducted a separate clean-up operation in Nkana East, Railways, Ndeke, Nkana West, Riverside and Mwaiseni, during which 67 people were apprehended.

Those apprehended comprised 28 Congolese, 24 Tanzanians, five Cambodians, three Ugandans, three Vietnamese, two Chinese nationals, one Turkish national and one Zambian.

Screening established that 37 people had valid immigration documents, five had expired documents, 24 failed to produce immigration documents, while one Tanzanian national could not be traced in the immigration system.

“The five persons with expired documents comprised four Congolese and one Vietnamese, while the 24 who failed to produce documents comprised 16 Congolese and eight Tanzanians,” he said.

Nshinka said the department would continue conducting routine and intelligence-led enforcement operations in collaboration with other security agencies.

He said all persons encountered during such operations would be treated in accordance with the law.
