He said bus drivers operating in unauthorised areas have also been directed to stop and relocate to designated bus stations with immediate effect.

Mr. MWEWA has advised all vendors to treat the directive as an official notification and comply by vacating unauthorised trading areas and moving to designated markets and bus stations.

He said the move is part of the Council’s efforts to maintain a clean, healthy, safe and orderly city.

Mr. MWEWA said continued street vending, coupled with indiscriminate waste disposal, poses public health and environmental risks and could contribute to the outbreak and spread of diseases, including cholera.

He said Lusaka is currently recovering from 130 reported cholera cases

Mr. MWEWA has warned that anyone found trading on the streets or in other prohibited areas will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

And Zambia Police spokesperson GODFREY CHILABI said the operation has been planned well.
