Lunzua Power Company Limited and Valinor Investments Limited have broken ground for the construction of a 10‑megawatt solar plant in Mwandi District, Western Province. The joint venture of Zambian companies, valued at 8 million US dollars, will add clean, renewable power to Zambia’s national grid. The project includes an evacuation line connecting the plant to the ZESCO’s grid and will be financed on a 30‑70 equity‑to‑debt basis by Lunzua and Valinor. Construction is being carried out by SANY International Zambia Industrial Company Limited. Lunzua Power Company CEO Martin Kasemuka said the investment will improve energy security for the people of Mwandi. Lunzua Head of Renewable Energy Joel Mwale added that the solar plant is significant because it will help to develop Mwandi District. Meanwhile, Valinor Investments Limited and COO Projects Managing Partner Mumamba Mwansa of Thebe Investment Management Group said the investment will improve the livelihoods of communities in the district. Mwandi BRE Kuta Head Crispin Mowa‑Zambwe said that the project will benefit the local community through employment opportunities.
