Lusaka Mayoral Petition Ends in Withdrawal

By Memory Bbuku

The Local Government Election Tribunal has granted the application to withdraw the Lusaka mayoral election petition filed by losing National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) candidate GABRIEL KIBOMBWE.

Mr KIBOMBWE had challenged the election of UPND’s CHITAMBALA MWEWA as Lusaka Mayor.

The withdrawal followed a joint notice filed by the parties pursuant to Rule 28 of the Local Government Election Tribunal Rules of 2026.

When the matter came up for continuation of trial, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) lawyer ERIC KAMWI informed the tribunal that the parties had agreed by consent to withdraw the petition.

Mr KAMWI told the tribunal that the withdrawal was made with the mutual consent of all parties.
