The Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development plans to expand the Mining and Investment Indaba in the coming years to attract greater stakeholder participation and strengthen its role as a platform for mining investment and regional cooperation.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka 2026, Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta said the Ministry intends to grow the Indaba by expanding its reach and positioning it as a bigger and more influential platform for mining dialogue, investment promotion, and regional cooperation.
Dr. Kabeta said the expansion would build on the momentum generated by the 2026 Indaba, which brought together government, industry, investors, and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges in Zambia’s mining sector.
He said the participation of mining ministers from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Botswana demonstrated the growing importance of the Indaba as a platform for engagement beyond Zambia’s borders.
Dr. Kabeta said regional cooperation would remain important in strengthening the mining sector, noting the need for Zambia to develop linkages with other countries in the region.

He said discussions at the Indaba had also reinforced the need to attract investment, promote responsible mineral exploration and production, increase local participation, and strengthen value addition.
Dr. Kabeta said the Ministry would continue building on the Indaba to ensure that Zambia’s mineral resources translate into tangible benefits for citizens and contribute to regional economic growth.
He said the Ministry’s plans to expand the Indaba would strengthen stakeholder participation and create a bigger platform for investors and industry players to engage on opportunities within the mining sector.
