Musokotwane Urges MinebyMine Strategy to Achieve Copper Target

Former Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says government must identify and resolve challenges in the mining...

Former Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says government must identify and resolve challenges in the mining sector to achieve its three-million-tonne copper production target under the Grow Zambia Agenda.

In an interview with ZNBC News, Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said Zambia must remain committed to the three-million-tonne target copper production.

He said even if achieving the target will take an additional year or two, copper production must continue increasing.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said government should adopt a mine-by-mine approach, closely monitoring projects from prospecting and mine development through to production.

This is to ensure that progress is not unnecessarily delayed.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said potential challenges must be identified early, citing environmental concerns as an example of issues that could delay the opening or expansion of mines if they are not addressed in good time.
