Zambian flyweight boxer Daniel Mwanza has won gold at the 2026 Eurasian Daurian Championship held in Russia, becoming the first African and Zambian boxer to defeat European competitors to claim the title in his weight category.

Zambia also secured a bronze medal in the bantamweight division, with Clement Zulu delivering a hard‑fought performance.

The country was represented by two boxers at the championship, which attracted participants from seven African nations and ten European countries.

Speaking to ZNBC Sports News, Mwanza said being crowned champion is no mean achievement, adding that his focus now shifts to preparations for the Olympic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Zambia Boxing Federation General Secretary Humphrey Kasosolwa praised the athletes, saying the two boxers have made the nation proud.
