The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has found Patriotic Front Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda with a case to answer in a charge of seditious practices over remarks he allegedly made about contaminated maize and mealie-meal.

Mr. Nakacinda is accused of making the remarks during a broadcast on Millennium Radio in Lusaka on August 21, 2024, claiming that the government had imported maize and mealie-meal contaminated with aflatoxins, which allegedly caused deaths among dogs and an unknown number of Zambians.

Magistrate Mwandu Sakala ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case, requiring Mr. Nakacinda to defend himself.

The lawyers representing Mr Nakacinda have indicated that they intend to call ten witnesses, with the matter adjourned to December 22, 2026, for opening defence.
