The family of businessman Harry Findlay has allaged that he is in police custody following his detention yesterday, adding that he has not been formally charged with any offence.
In a statement, the family says it respects the rule of law and has confidence in the legal process.
However, it has expressed concern over Mr. Findlay’s health, saying authorities have been informed of his serious medical condition through medical reports and repeated requests for the release of his passport to allow him to travel for urgent specialized treatment.
The family has appealed for his medical needs to receive urgent and compassionate consideration in line with the Constitution and the law.
They have also emphasized that Mr. Findlay is entitled to the presumption of innocence and called for his rights to be protected throughout the legal process.
The family has further urged the public and the media to avoid speculation and allow the matter to proceed through the courts while respecting their privacy during what they described as a difficult time.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Police has been contacted and is yet to confirm the allaged arrest.
