Hichilema set to embark on new mandate next week Tue!
PRESIDENT-Elect Hakainde Hichilema is next week Tuesday, September 1, 2026, set to begin his second term in office following his declaration as winner of the August 13 general elections.
President Hichilema polled over 2.9 million votes, beating his closest rival, opposition leader Brian Mundubile, who garnered over 1.8 million votes.
Mundubile was, until yesterday, set to challenge President Hichilema’s re-election, claiming the election was marred by unprecedented irregularities.
However, the Courts were yesterday closed, leaving those intending to file election petitions in limbo.
