Putin–Trump Tensions Escalate Over Strait of Hormuz
Unverified reports claim Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stark warning to U.S. President Donald Trump over any confrontation involving Russian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the circulating claims, Moscow has warned that any interception or attack on a Russian ship could trigger a major escalation involving Russia, Iran and the United States, with Israel potentially becoming a target.
The reports suggest that the Kremlin views the security of the Strait of Hormuz—and the protection of Russian-linked interests in the region as a strategic red line.
Any direct confrontation between Russian and U.S. forces in the waterway could dramatically widen the conflict, potentially transforming a regional crisis into a confrontation involving major global powers.
However, there is currently no independently verified evidence that Putin personally threatened that “Israel will be wiped off the map” if a Russian ship is intercepted. The claim should therefore be treated as unverified unless confirmed by the Kremlin, the Russian Foreign Ministry, or credible independent news organizations
If Moscow were to intervene militarily alongside Iran, the consequences could extend far beyond the Strait of Hormuz, significantly increasing the risk of a broader international conflict.
