Stanbic Bank Zambia Head Corporate & Investment Banking, Helen Lubamba, has been awarded the Energy Finance Trailblazer Award in recognition of her leadership in energy finance and contribution to structuring and facilitating transformative investments in the energy sector.

Lubamba received the award during the 2026 Energy Forum for Africa in Lusaka, where industry leaders, financiers, government officials and energy developers are meeting to explore investment opportunities and accelerate the development of Africa’s energy sector.

The award recognised Lubamba’s leadership in energy finance and her role in facilitating investments aimed at addressing the continent’s energy needs and supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and interconnected energy system.

The recognition comes as Zambia seeks to attract greater private-sector investment into energy infrastructure, including generation, transmission and distribution, to support its economic transformation.

Stanbic Bank Zambia has been active in financing energy projects and developing innovative financing solutions aimed at increasing electricity generation and improving access to reliable power.

The bank has supported projects including the 100-megawatt KNBE Chisamba Solar Project and acted as lead manager and underwriter for a US$96.7 million green bond issued for Copperbelt Energy Corporation Renewables.

Stanbic has also provided a US$55.5 million facility to support more than 130MW of emergency power imports, while its ZamWatt programme with ZESCO and GreenCo Power Services seeks to connect renewable energy projects with commercial and industrial power users.

The Energy Forum for Africa, held under the theme “Driving a Borderless Energy Future for Africa,” is focusing on how governments, investors, financiers and private-sector players can mobilise capital and develop infrastructure to enable electricity and other energy resources to move more efficiently across borders.

Lubamba’s award places her among industry leaders recognised for advancing innovative approaches to energy financing and supporting investment in projects critical to Africa’s energy future.
