UK-France Push Separate Coalition to Protect Shipping in Strait of Hormuz

Britain and France are reportedly working to establish a separate international coalition of around 12 countries focused on protecting commercial shipping and supporting safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposed coalition would operate independently from NATO, with participating countries potentially contributing naval assets and other capabilities to support maritime security in the strategic waterway.

The initiative comes as commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz faces continued disruption and security risks amid the wider confrontation involving Iran.

The UK and France are seeking to bring together a group of countries willing to contribute to efforts to restore freedom of navigation and protect merchant vessels, while avoiding placing the operation formally under the NATO banner.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, making any prolonged disruption a major concern for international trade, shipping and energy markets.
