UPND Committed to Inclusive Media Simuuwe

UPND Media Director MARK SIMUUWE says the UPND Government remains committed to a professional, responsible and inclusive media environment in Zambia. Mr SIMUUWE also says the UPND welcomes robust scrutiny and legitimate criticism of the Government. He however says the UPND rejects selective access, political imbalance and the use of media platforms to advance narratives against one political side while denying them an opportunity to respond. Mr. SIMUUWE says his party believes that every political party, regardless of whether it is in government or opposition, deserves a fair opportunity to communicate with citizens. This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka today in reaction to a congratulatory message to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA by HOT FM Management. Mr. SIMUUWE says while the Party acknowledges the congratulatory message, it finds it difficult to regard it as genuine, given Hot FM’s conduct and editorial posture throughout the electoral period. He has accused Hot FM of repeatedly refusing to carry UPND advertisements, including those featuring President Hichilema and highlighting the Government’s development record. Mr. SIMUUWE has urged Hot FM Management and all media houses to reflect on their role in promoting democracy and recommit themselves to the principles of fairness, balance, professionalism and responsible journalism.
