Zambia has recorded improved learning outcomes among 15-year-old learners, with performance in science, mathematics and reading rising compared with 2017.
The latest Programme for International Student Assessment –PISA- results also show a reduction in the proportion of low-performing learners across all three subjects.
Speaking during the launch of the PISA 2025 results, OECD PISA Data Manager GUILLAUME BOUSQUET said the biggest improvement was recorded in science, where the proportion of low-performing learners fell by 19 percentage points.
Mr. BOUSQUET said mathematics and reading each recorded a 13-percentage-point reduction in low-performing learners.
And Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary KELVIN MAMBWE said government will use the findings to assess whether investments in the education sector are translating into improved learning outcomes.
Dr. MAMBWE said the results will provide evidence to guide policy and interventions in areas including teaching and learning, teacher development, curriculum implementation, assessment and school leadership.
