By Alice Lubasi Zambia anticipates to produce about 105 million broilers in 2026, compared with 97 million in 2025. The Poultry Association of Zambia has attributed this to lower production costs, improved electricity supply, a stronger kwacha and renewed consumption of poultry products. Poultry Association of Zambia Outgoing National Chairperson RENE LOURENS says growth is expected to stimulate related sectors, particularly agriculture and Agro-processing. Mr LOURENS says poultry businesses have been able to move away from costly alternative energy sources and return to more efficient and cost-effective electricity. Mr LOURENS said this during the Poultry Association of Zambia Annual General meeting and launch of the Annual Poultry Symposium in Lusaka . Meanwhile Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Acting Permanent Secretary MAX CHOOMBE has commended the poultry sector for being the largest contributor to livestock gross domestic product and supporting more than 100,000 direct jobs. Dr CHOOMBE said various economic developments have significantly reduced stock feed prices across livestock species. Director Human Resources and Administration FREDERICK MWILA represented and delivered a speech on behalf of Dr Choombe. And, Zambia National Farmers Union President ZVHIKONYO MAHOMBE said the farming community welcomes the agricultural production targets announced by the Government, including 10 million metric tonnes of maize and 3 million metric tonnes of soybeans. Mr MAHOMBE said the sector is ready to rise to the challenge and will work towards achieving the targets in the shortest possible time.
