ZANACO Football Club has announced the departure of Zanaco Ladies Head Coach Florence Mwila, bringing to a close what the club described as “an outstanding chapter” in the team’s history.

In a statement issued by the club’s Media & Communications Department, Zanaco said Mwila had led the Zanaco Ladies team since its formation on 9 April 2021.

Under her leadership, the team competed in the FAZ Women’s Super League Lusaka Province and earned promotion to the FAZ Women’s Super League. The club credited Mwila with establishing Zanaco’s women’s football programme and transforming it into a competitive force in Zambian women’s football.

“Her commitment, professionalism and passion for the game have been instrumental in laying a strong foundation for the Club’s continued growth, while nurturing and inspiring the next generation of female footballers,” the statement read.

Beyond club football, Mwila also served with distinction as Assistant Coach of the Zambia Women’s National Team, the Copper Queens, under the late Coach Bruce Mwape.

She was part of the technical bench that guided Zambia to a historic bronze medal at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. That achievement secured the nation’s first-ever qualification to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Mwila also played a key role in the Copper Queens’ qualification for and participation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, marking Zambia’s second consecutive appearance at the Olympics.

Zanaco said throughout her tenure, Mwila exemplified “dedication, resilience, discipline and excellence” and helped build a culture of professionalism, teamwork and ambition within the club.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, players, technical staff, supporters and the entire ZANACO Football Club family, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Coach Florence Mwila for her exceptional service, unwavering commitment and invaluable contribution to the growth and success of ZANACO Ladies,” the club said.

As she embarks on the next chapter of her coaching career, Zanaco wished Mwila “every success in her future endeavours,” adding that her legacy “will forever remain part of the proud history of ZANACO Football Club.”

The club did not announce a replacement for Mwila.
