ZESCO Begins Scheduled Maintenance Ahead of Rainy Season

By Daisy Mulenga ZESCO Limited has commenced scheduled maintenance on electricity infrastructure in selected parts of the country to strengthen the network and ensure a safe, reliable power supply ahead of the rainy season. The works involve inspecting, repairing, and replacing worn‑out equipment, clearing vegetation near power lines, reinforcing vulnerable sections, and attending to defects at substations and distribution lines. ZESCO explained that the maintenance is necessary because electricity infrastructure is more exposed to lightning, strong winds, falling trees, and flooding during the rainy season. The utility clarified that interruptions arising from the planned works do not constitute load shedding, stressing that security of supply remains guaranteed. ZESCO said only specifically identified areas will be affected, with customers receiving prior notification through SMS, public notices, and digital platforms. In a statement, ZESCO urged the public to treat all power lines as live at all times and to immediately report any fallen conductors or damaged poles to the company.
