Zambia’s hopes of progressing at the 2026 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup ended after a 1-0 defeat to France in their final Group D match played on Sunday.

Carol Kanyemba’s side finished bottom of the group without a point after losing all three of their matches in Morocco.

France secured victory through Lea Motyka, whose lone goal of the match condemned the Copper Princesses to their third successive defeat of the tournament.

Earlier in the competition, Zambia suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Japan before narrowly going down 3-2 to Venezuela despite twice taking the lead.

In the other Group D fixture, Japan defeated Venezuela 2-0 to complete a perfect group stage campaign with nine points.
