Five African Heads of State have arrived in Lusaka to attend the inauguration of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema at the National Heroes Stadium on Tuesday.
The leaders are Kenyan President William Ruto, Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Botswana President Duma Boko and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The presidents were received at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by senior government officials, including permanent secretaries, before proceeding to the stadium for the inauguration ceremony.
They were accorded military honours and welcomed by traditional dance performances from local cultural groups.
The attendance of the five regional leaders highlights Zambia’s diplomatic ties with neighbouring countries and its wider engagement with the Southern African region.
