Grow Zambia Agenda to Drive Economic Transformation Across Provinces

By Sharon Siame

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa says the Grow Zambia Agenda presents a significant opportunity to accelerate economic transformation and ensure the benefits of growth are felt in communities across all ten provinces.

Speaking at the Provincial Economies Lab organised by the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and the Public Private Dialogue Forum (PPDF) in Lusaka, Mr. Kangwa said the initiative seeks to decentralise economic activity by shifting development efforts from the centre to provinces, regions and districts.

He said each province must identify its unique contribution to national economic ambitions and prioritise investments capable of unlocking maximum economic value.

Mr. Kangwa added that Government is committed to identifying and removing bureaucratic barriers that hinder investment implementation, citing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) as a successful model for delivering development projects efficiently and rapidly.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary for Economic Management and Finance Mulele Mulele said Government is transitioning from a focus on macroeconomic stability towards a framework that emphasises productivity growth and job creation.

Mr. Mulele said Zambia needs to attain an economic growth rate of between seven and ten percent to make a meaningful impact on poverty reduction.

And PDU Head Kusobile Kamwambi said the PDU and PPDF are conducting Delivery Labs to develop a practical roadmap for implementing the Grow Zambia Agenda.

Ms. Kamwambi added that future Delivery Labs will focus on key sectors including energy, agriculture and livestock, which have been identified as critical drivers of economic growth.
