NAIS- Over forty seven thousand farmers in Northern Province have redeemed their farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme for the 2026/2027 farming season.

Northern Province Senior Marketing and Development Officer Chikobola MUSAKA has confirmed that this is out of the over sixty four thousand who have deposited four hundred Kwacha each through the Food Reserve Agency.

Mr MUSAKA said this represents 66 percent of the deposits from the 98,315 farmers targeted to benefit from the FISP programme across all 12 districts in the Province.

And Farm Zone Enterprise Limited Chief Executive Officer CHARLES PHIRI said the e-voucher system is making farming inputs more accessible to farmers in Northern Province by bringing agro-dealers closer to farming communities.

Mr PHIRI has praised government for settling payments to agro-dealers who have submitted their invoices.

Meanwhile, Northern Provincial Meteorological Officer ANDREW HAKABINGA has advised farmers not to start planting until they experience stable rainfall.

Mr HAKABINGA said Northern Province is expected to experience normal rainfall in the second week of November 2026.

He has however warned that Northern Province may experience more floods than in past years due to the effects of climate change.

And Kasama District Senior Agricultural Supervisor BUSUMAN BANDA has advised farmers in flood-prone areas to identify safer farming locations as the district anticipates normal to above-normal rainfall.
