🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Mutharika congratulates Hichilema as regional messages continue

Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, adding Malawi to the growing list of countries recognising the outcome of Zambia’s August 13 presidential election.

In a message issued Saturday, Mutharika said Hichilema’s victory reflected the confidence Zambians had placed in his leadership and his vision for the country.

“His resounding victory is a clear reflection of the confidence the people of Zambia have placed in his leadership,” Mutharika said.

The Malawian leader wished Hichilema success during his second term and said Lilongwe looked forward to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

The message adds to a stream of congratulations reaching Lusaka following Hichilema’s re-election.
