Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Dr Tuesday Bwalya, has urged communities benefiting from the Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development (TRALARD) Phase One and Two projects to take ownership of infrastructure financed under the programme
Bwalya made the call during a tour of TRALARD II sites in Mpika District, where he visited the Katongo Kapala community intake funnel and irrigation canal, constructed at a cost of more than K3 million with World Bank financing.
This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment in Lusaka on Friday.
Bwalya urged residents to use the facility responsibly and carry out regular maintenance to ensure its functionality and longevity.
“The scheme is a catalyst for climate-smart agriculture and food security, allowing farmers to produce beyond the rainy season,” Bwalya said.

Muchinga Assistant Director of Planning Mataa Kamenda said TRALARD II was advancing the Grow Zambia agenda by enabling year-round crop production in the Katongo Kapala community.
Beneficiary representative Peter Nsofu thanked the government and its partners, saying the project had transformed livelihoods by providing access to irrigation and supporting more stable incomes from crop sales.
TRALARD II Muchinga Provincial Project Operations Officer, Catherine Sakala, urged the community to protect the three-kilometre canal from vandalism.
“Over 200 community members are also using the water for household needs, while the canal is boosting resilience ahead of the anticipated El Niño season,” Sakala said.
