The Ministry of Education says it is committed to expanding and strengthening the School Health Programme to improve learner well-being and learning outcomes.

Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr Kelvin Mambwe says government wants school health services to become an integral and sustainable part of the education system.

Speaking at an event organised by the Ministry in partnership with Healthy Learners in Lusaka, Dr Mambwe says the programme has helped bring basic healthcare closer to learners while strengthening schools’ capacity to identify and address common health challenges.

He says Zambia is also ready to share its experiences with Malawi, whose government has shown interest in learning from the programme and exploring how it can be adapted to its education system.

Dr Mambwe says the long-term sustainability of the programme will depend on government ownership, adequate resource allocation and integrating the interventions into national systems rather than relying solely on external partners.
