South Korea scrambled fighter jets after detecting Russian military aircraft entering its Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ), according to The Independent.

Moscow reportedly did not provide Seoul with a flight plan or prior warning before the aircraft entered the zone.

South Korean authorities viewed the incident as a potential provocation and deployed fighter jets to monitor the Russian aircraft and prepare for any possible escalation. The South Korean aircraft tracked their trajectory until the Russian planes left the identification zone.

An air defense identification zone is not sovereign airspace, but military aircraft entering such zones are generally expected to identify themselves to help prevent accidental confrontations.
