Former Kanchibiya Member of Parliament SUNDAY CHANDA has withdrawn his election petition challenging the outcome of the 2026 Parliamentary election.
Mr.CHANDA says he has made the decision after careful reflection and consultations, putting the interests of the people of Kanchibiya above his personal political ambitions.
He says although he believes he had justiciable grounds to challenge the result, he has chosen peace, development and continuity over a prolonged political contest.
Mr.CHANDA says his five years as Member of Parliament saw significant development in Kanchibiya, citing the construction of Kaonda, Aluni and Washeni bridges, mini-hospitals in Chalabesa, Luchembe and Mpepo, schools and a Youth Skills Training Centre.

He has also defended his decision to support the delimitation exercise, saying the creation of two constituencies from the former Kanchibiya area provides greater potential for development resources and representation.
Mr.CHANDA has thanked President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for what he describes as a strong development partnership during his tenure.
He says despite once being a strong critic of President HICHILEMA, he chose to work with Government when that presented an opportunity to advance development in Kanchibiya.
Mr.CHANDA has urged the incoming Member of Parliament to work with Government and build on the development projects already started.
He has also called on residents to reject tribalism, saying Kanchibiya belongs to all Zambians regardless of tribe, political affiliation or background.
Mr. CHANDA says he remains a son of Kanchibiya and will continue to support the constituency’s development despite no longer representing it in Parliament.
He says in Statement obtained by ZNBC NEWS that withdrawing the petition is not an admission that he had no grounds to challenge the election result, but a deliberate decision to allow a new chapter to begin.
Mr.CHANDA said his guiding principle remains – development above politics.
