A 12-year-old girl in Mkushi District has allegedly been defiled after she was left in the company of a man who had offered to escort her to her grandparents’ home.

Police say the incident happened on September 24 around 23:00 hours in Itala Compound.

The matter was reported the following day by the girl’s 43-year-old mother, who reported on behalf of her daughter, a Form One pupil at Chibefwe Day Secondary School.

According to Central Province Police Commissioner Lemekani Chirwa, the girl had earlier been with other juveniles before being left in the company of a man identified as Patrick, who accompanied her towards her parents’ home.

Police say the two were later joined by another man, identified as Ackim, who allegedly took the girl to a nearby house after Patrick left.

It is alleged that Ackim gave the girl water, after which she became dizzy and fell asleep. He is then alleged to have taken advantage of her condition and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The girl later reported the matter to her grandparents, who informed her mother. A medical report was issued, while police investigations are continuing. No arrest has been made so far.
