A Zimbabwean truck driver has died after the Freightliner truck he was driving veered off the Chirundu-Kafue Road and caught fire at Kapilingozi Hills.

The accident happened on Monday, September 14, 2026, around 17:00 hours.

According to Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations officer Timothy Malumo, the driver was travelling from west to east when he allegedly failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed.

The truck subsequently veered off the road, hit a hill and skidded onto its right side before catching fire.

Police say the driver sustained fatal injuries and was burnt beyond recognition.
