It will also enble them with the recognition of standards and conformity assessment results issued by either party and provision of technical support and expertise in standards development, among other areas.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 32nd African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) General Assembly in Mombasa, Kenya.

ZABS Executive Director, Nathan Sing’ambwa, described the agreement with RSB as a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with other national standards bodies.
“This agreement is crucial as it provides a framework for applying uniform standards and procedures in the assessing and testing of goods traded between Zambia and Rwanda, Sing’ambwa said.
Signing on behalf of the RSB Director General, Division Manager of the National Metrology Services at RSB, Emmanueline Irizerwa emphasized that the agreement represented more than signatures on paper, as it was expected to foster increased cooperation and joint activities between Rwanda and Zambia.
“There are currently many partnerships and businesses between the two countries, so this is the right time to advance the standardisation agenda as we work towards having one certificate that will serve us all,” Irizerwa said.
Meanwhile, ARSO Secretary General, Dr. Hermogene Nsegimana, urged both national standards bodies to ensure that the MoU delivered tangible benefits by actively implementing its provisions, noting that it will play a vital role in facilitating intra-African trade.
