Two Zambian women who were allegedly exploited in India have been successfully repatriated home, the Department of Immigration has said.

The two women travelled to India in July 2026 for employment but reportedly found themselves performing work different from what had been agreed upon.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, Department of Immigration Chief Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, said immigration officers at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport received the two women and a Zambian male national deported from Dubai for unlawful stay.

“The duo had travelled to India in July 2026 for employment but reportedly found themselves performing work different from what had been agreed upon. They subsequently sought refuge at the Zambian Embassy and arranged their return home,” he stated.

Nshinka said the two women were handed over to officers from the Department of Social Welfare and the Anti-Human Trafficking Department for further attention upon arrival.

“On the same day, Immigration Officers at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport also received a Zambian male national who had been deported from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for unlawful stay. The individual had departed Zambia on 29th March, 2026, and reportedly worked as a technician at Amazon,” he stated.

Nshinka said the Dubai deportee had remained in the country beyond the period authorised under his visit status, resulting in his deportation.

In a separate operation, the Department of Immigration in Lusaka on Thursday, October 22, 2026, removed 193 illegal immigrants from the country in a mass removal operation.

“The Department of Immigration in Lusaka, on Thursday, 22nd October, 2026, removed one hundred and ninety-three (193) illegal immigrants from the country in a mass removal operation,” Nshinka said.

He said those removed comprised 164 Burundians, 22 Tanzanians, four Rwandans and three Ugandans.

Nshinka said some of those removed had been convicted of various immigration offences and subsequently paid court-imposed fines, while others were removed administratively.

“The Department wishes to caution Zambians seeking employment opportunities abroad to exercise due diligence before accepting job offers, particularly those facilitated by recruitment agents or individuals whose credentials have not been verified,” he stated.

He urged prospective migrant workers to seek clearance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and to verify the legitimacy of prospective employers, employment contracts and immigration requirements in destination countries.
