ZELENSKY AND MACRON MOVE TO ACCELERATE FRANCE-UKRAINE MILITARY COOPERATION
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron held nearly two hours of talks on August 22, focusing heavily on Ukraine’s urgent need for air-defense systems and missiles.
Macron reportedly expressed France’s readiness to help Ukraine secure additional Patriot missiles from other international partners.
France also reaffirmed its willingness to grant licenses that would allow missile production directly inside Ukraine, potentially strengthening Kyiv’s domestic defense-industrial capabilities.
The two leaders also discussed diplomatic coordination with the United States, financing for Ukraine’s defense needs in 2026 and 2027, and several bilateral military agreements whose implementation is expected to be accelerated.
The expanded cooperation comes as Ukraine continues to intensify its long-range strikes against Russian military and infrastructure targets.
Intelligence reportedly provided by France and the United States has also helped Ukraine identify elements of Russia’s air-defense network and determine routes that allow Ukrainian drones to bypass Russian defenses.
The latest talks signal a deeper strategic partnership between Paris and Kyiv, as European countries continue efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities amid the ongoing war with Russia.
