An 11-year-old boy has sustained serious injuries in Mazabuka, Southern province, after a grenade exploded in his hands. This happened at Simwaba village in Chief MWANACHINGWALA’s area on Monday, September 14, 2026. Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, MOONO NAMALONGO has confirmed the incident, saying the boy sustained multiple injuries. Mr NAMALONGO has explained that on the material day, the boy picked a hand grenade, while returning from the market with his mother. He has added that the boy and the mother arrived at home, he allegedly pulled the grenade’s pin, causing it to explode in his hands. The boy has since been admitted to Mazabuka General Hospital, where his right hand has been amputated.
