Mansa Records 3 Rabies Cases in Third Quarter 2026

Mansa Municipal Council, through the Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Services Department, has raised a rabies alert following an increase in dog-bite cases, with three rabies cases confirmed during the current quarter.

The department recorded 35 dog-bite cases in June and July, although the figures may not reflect the full extent of the situation, as only four of the district’s ten veterinary camps are currently staffed by veterinary personnel.

The Council has urged dog and cat owners to vaccinate their animals against rabies and ensure that dogs are properly confined to prevent contact with stray animals and reduce the risk of bites.

Residents, particularly those living near wildlife areas, have also been urged to remain vigilant, while the public has been advised not to consume animals showing signs of rabies or those that have died from unknown causes.

Anyone bitten by a dog should immediately wash the wound thoroughly with detergent and clean water before seeking medical attention for appropriate treatment.

The Council has further warned that dogs found roaming the streets, as well as those that are unregistered and unvaccinated, will be dealt with in accordance with applicable regulations.
