State Challenges Musukwas Bid to Retain Assets Worth 100 Million Kwacha

The state has opposed former Minister RICHARD MUSUKWA’s bid to prevent the seizure of his assets valued over 100 million Kwacha deemed to be proceeds of crime. DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions GILBERT PHIRI has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to dismiss Mr. MUSUKWA’s plea against the seizure of his assets. Mr. PHIRI has argued that Mr. MUSUKWA has not demonstrated that the assets were acquired through legitimate means. He said Mr. MUSUKWA’s defense of being involved in farming and transport businesses is not supported by adequate evidence of ownership, tax obligation, income documentation, profitability and registration. This is according to Mr. PHIRI’s arguments contained in his Affidavit in reply to Mr. MUSUKWA’s opposition to the seizure of his asset. The arguments have been filed in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.
